What to Expect at Your Vet Consultation

consultations content image

Whether it’s your first visit to Leadon Vale Veterinary Practice or you’ve been here before, your pet will need an initial vet consultation to establish whether any issues need attention.

Vet consultations can be used to investigate specific symptoms or injuries you may have noticed in your pet, or as a general health and wellbeing assessment when you register your pet with us for the first time.

If you have a new kitten or puppy who needs microchipping, we’ll book them in for a consultation to check them over first.

If the initial consultation reveals any cause for concern, our vets will agree on the next steps with you. This could include medication, x-rays, referral to a nurse clinic, or further investigation. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way.

Routine Vet Consultations

Routine vet consultations are usually for vaccinations, health checks and flea and worming treatments. Annual check-ups are recommended for your pet to allow for any early detection of conditions or health concerns. Our nurse consultations are designed to offer professional pet advice and guidance for pet owners.

Vet Consultation from Home

Our home vet visits are designed for remote care in cases where you cannot bring your pet to the practice. We offer consultations via telephone and in-person home visits with qualified vets and nurses, delivering high levels of care and checking things like blood pressure, health checks, nail clipping, or routine vaccinations. Our home visit vet service is perfect for anxious pets as they can remain in their familiar environment.

In the Case of an Emergency…

You should call the veterinary practice if your pet is experiencing any of the following symptoms, as they may require emergency care rather than a usual consultation booking:

  • They are unconscious
  • They have collapsed
  • Experiencing difficulty breathing
  • Suspect they have broken a bone
  • Had or are having a seizure
  • Have an open wound/bleeding
  • Lameness or inability to walk
  • Are in visible pain
  • Have a swollen abdomen
  • Are persistently vomiting
  • Have persistent diarrhoea
  • Are frothing at the mouth
  • Any accident or physical injury
